Best Kahoona V4 7.5m 2012

Review by Ross (IKO Kitesurfing and powerkite instructor)

The rain has been falling forever it seems but at least the wind is blowing (well more like screaming!).

We have just taken stock of the 2012 Best Khoonas and I was eager to give them a blast. As the wind was hitting gusts of 35knots I decided to take the 7.5m out for a session. First impresion it looked as good as last years with the high end build quality and the graphics have been tweaked.

I have been flying the Best Kahoonas since the V1 so I know them well and this kitesurfing kite delivered as the others have. It has such a huge wind range it just feels incredibly comfortable even in the gusty winds i was flying in. The depower is instant, as soon as you let go of the bar it just falls to the water, works it's way to the edge of the wind window and sits there waiting to be relaunched.

Sometimes the kite doesn't keep the power on in the really fast powered turns but that is a price you pay for having SLE kites and the majority of people flying this kite won't want power in the turns as they will be beginners or freeriders/waveriders. The jumping on this kite always puts a smile on my face, it's so simple and so reliable, send it had to 12 and pull the bar in BOOM up you go :) I will never get bored of flying this kite purely for that one feature.

It really is the perfect kite to teach and learn on and I just can't help but always pick it out for myself when i'm off for a ride.

Naish Ride 10m 2012

Review by Alex (BKSA Kitesurfing Instructor)

I wasn’t particularly eager to put my wetsuit on upon the day of testing, due to the typically English sideways rain and below average temperatures in MAY!

However when I eventually dragged myself into the suit of dreams, the first kite I jumped on was the new Naish ride. A kite designed apparently to spend time in the water; bear with me.

The new anti stiction window, a great word invented by the constantly innovating Naish team, allows for water to drain out of the kite on a water re-launch quicker than just falling off the back of the kite. Now being that this kite is aimed at beginners I think it is a great Idea, and before the bunch of ‘lets talk about it more than we do it’ riders get wind of this and start discussing how it effects the instability or drag of the kite; well, it doesn’t.

The kite did re-launch well. However any kite does in 25kts-30kts of wind so we shall have to see what the light wind capabilities of the kite are. But given this, the sheer depower in just the throw of the kite alone impressed me enough to recommend these for teaching.

I am still not a fan of the safety line sitting on the chicken loop and it feels and looks old and outdate to me but then it does help students to visualise the process a bit more and makes it easier for them to clip in.

I intended to come back in and switch boards and kite but I found a good amount of enjoyment in the kite and flying it certainly wasn’t a chore.

Overall I think the kite is comfortable and fun. Unlike many kites out there that take a lot of work to get something out of, the Ride genuinely is just a nice kite to fly and given its target market I cant help but feel Naish have achieved what they set out to do very well. This is a great kite and should have a lot of beginnersand freeriders/waveriders queuing up to use them.
